Assignments and Tests

Homework is usually given when a student needs to finish an assignment that was started in class. This usually entails, but is not exclusive to, writing assignments that require independent writing, rough drafting and revising. There are times students will need to take a textbook home to complete reading assignments. This does not happen very often, depending on how quickly individuals complete their work during class time. If an assignment needs to be finished as homework for most of the students or individual classes (example: One class was interrupted by a fire alarm needs extra time to finish an assignment), I will update the "What's Going On" page of my website to inform parents and students of the situation.

Students who are absent will need to see me individually for make up work. This is the student's responsibility. Please remind your child to ask me about work missed due to an absence.  Students have the same number of days that they were absent to complete their missed work.  I encourage students to utilize after school tutoring to help them catch up.  They may also make arrangements with me.  Remember: Final grades can be severely impacted by just a couple of missing assignments.

As far as tests are concerned, I give students a minimum of five days notice of an upcoming test. There are times however, when pop quizzes will be given on material that we have recently covered.  We spend time in class reviewing for tests and students may also do this in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) before or after school.  Students are usually not allowed to use notes or the literature book during tests. I will post upcoming test dates and quizzes on the "What's Going On"  page of my website.
